PROTECTING CLIMATE & COMMUNITY

Ecology green leaf icon

Fossil fuels built our society today, but they will not carry us into the future. While the transition away from fossil fuels is urgent and necessary, families and entire communities are reliant on these industries as the main source of income. The only just and equitable transition away from fossil fuels will be one that centers both the workers and the frontline communities most impacted.

The Coalition’s Climate and Energy Group is specifically focused on transitioning Colorado communities away from fossil fuels in a way that bolsters local economies and accounts for the tax base and income that fossil fuels provide.

OUR PROJECTS

Oil and Gas Sector Study

We recognized the gap in support for transitioning oil and gas workers and needed to better understand the industry as a whole. We commissioned a study to examine the labor, revenue, environmental and health implications of the sector, as well as potential pathways for a transition. This was an important first step to determining the best course of action given the state’s unique opportunities and challenges in this arena.

The Just Transition Roundtable Series

The Just Transition Roundtable Series gave workers and impacted oil and gas communities a chance to share their concerns and advocate for their needs during the energy transition. This facilitated dialogue also featured voices of relevant stakeholders including environmental and community groups, labor unions, public health and more. These sessions culminated in the Just Transition report, which provides policy and decision-making recommendations for which there was strong consensus and support from group participants.
